(en) US, Pittsburgh, Archist journal, Steel City Revolt! #2 - Anarchist Society Column (who doesn’t get the irony)

Anyone who was anyone was at the most exquisite affair of the season this November in
Providence, Rhode Island during the Northeast Anarchist Network’s general assembly. In the
hours surrounding high noon on this momentous day, anarchists from across the region
gathered to invent, reinvent, tweak, add to, caucus about, and subtract from the day’s
agenda. After a final reinvention (for good measure), twilight fell and all disagreements
turned facetiously physical. Steel Cage Wrestling became the new forum for conflict
resolution and feisty personalities prepared for their showdowns while the less
rumble-hungry throngs enjoyed spunky anarcho-folk-punk from Jake and the Infernal Machine.
Delightful sounds of revolution echoed through the great halls of the dreamlike warehouse,
home to fanciful, glittery backstage props and even a homemade slide.
And then the games began. Organizers took care to lay down some basic health
considerations for participants and requested information including “special moves” so the
announcer could recognize when they were occurring. “Straight from the battlefields of the
Spanish Civil War, weighing in at 172lbs 8oz... George Orwell!” and "Oh no, it's ‘The Boot
Stamping on a Human Face, FOREVER!’”
Some of the night’s pugilists included Nestor Makhno, Macho Man Randy Savage, Emma Golden
Grahms, and Sacco and Vanzetti battling The State. Even The Weather Underground surfaced
for a tumble.
During one of the evening’s copious highlights, Sheriff Bob Fletcher (who gained infamy
through repression at the Republican National Convention protests) fought The Black Block.
And lost. During another, A Union Worker entered the ring. To the unbridled horror of the
crowd, Henry Clay Frick followed him in, wearing nothing but a tie and his underwear. The
bellicose robber baron was beaten when our hero managed to restrain him with a DIY
straightjacket (a.k.a. a red and black flag).
It’s as though this party challenges the entire foundations of irreverent revelry and
delicious chaos anarchy is perennially accused of defining. As if this party is literally
saying, “Bring it on” to all other parties hence forth. Dare it be said, this superior
shindig has yet to be matched by any celebratory attempt this writer has ever graced.
Best. Party. Ever.
