8th International Anarchist Bookfair, on February 21st, 2009, in Ghent, Belgium. - The place to
be for critical, counter-current books and publications, hard to find in mainstream bookstores.
Lots of independent editors and distributors, NGO's and action groups from Belgium, UK,
Netherlands, France, ... will present their books, magazines, dvd's, music, t-shirts,... Apart from
a large selection of libertarian / anarchist books, you will find lots of publications in the
fields of antiglobalism, direct action, anti-militarism, radical eco-action,... ---- A small
selection of confirmed stalls: A voix autre, AK Press & Distribution, Boekhandel Rosa / AMOK Noord,
De Dolle Hond, De Rooie Rat, Infotheek en anarchief Gent, John Active Distribution, Stair, Alert!,

Parallel to the bookfair, we present a program of workshops, debate, video's. An overview:

- Why Anarchism? - Iain McKay
Iain McKay published the first volume of "An Anarchist FAQ" in 2007. It is an extensive work
dealing with the theory, history, and practice of anarchism. Lecture and discussion: “why Anarchism?”

- Workshop: Safe communication for activists
While preparing actions, the question often arises of how and whether information about the action
can leak out. This workshop concentrates on the problem: we look at the most common listening and
interception techniques, give practical tips for how to use landlines and mobile phones in a
realistic but safe manner, and look at how you can safely encrypt mails.
- Anarchism and syndicalist struggle
Panel debate with Workers Solidarity Movement (Ireland), SAC Swedish anarchist trade union, tbc),
CNT-AIT Lille on the struggle for income and in the workplace, and how that can be approached in a
contemporary and radical manner.
- Fire in Greece
On 6th December 2008 the police shot and killed 15 year old Alexandros Grigoropoulos. Since then
Greece has seen widespread unrest. Andreas explains the backgrounds of the uprising.
- "Lappersfortbos"
The lappersfortbos is a threatened area of forest in Bruges. In 2001 the forest was occupied for
more than a year. The threat that the trees will be cut down has returned, and on 20th September
2008, the forest was occupied again. The occupation has already lasted several months, with some
tens of activists living permamently in tree houses and a fort. They are prepared to save the
forest. A number of the Lappersfort-occupiers come to speak about the history, the occupation and
the future of the Lappersfortbos.
