(en) US, NYC, New NYMAA (New York Metro Anarchists Aliance) Working Group

Date Sat, 13 Sep 2008 11:49:59 +0300

Hey all, ---- So, following this week's well-attended Nuts & Bolts meeting at
Housing Works, there's a new NYMAA working group! ---- We have yet to come up
with a snappy name, but this working group is taking on some RNC repression
support and coordinating a NYMAA presence at the 10/10 political prisoner march.
We're also trying to cross-pollinate the two. ---- In the immediate future,
we're going to coordinate with folks from the In Our Hearts network to throw a
fundraiser for RNC arrestees. It'll bolster the defense funds of both the
arrested members of the RNC Welcoming Committee (who've been hit with terrorism
charges and whose estimated legal costs are hitting $250,000) and NYC-area folks
who were arrested (we've only got one on the list so far, so if you know of
more, please let us know!).

We're also going to support the 10/10 political prisoner events
spearheaded by the Jericho Movement. They're planning a picket at the UN
and a concert on October 10 and a march and rally on October 11 to mark
the 10-year anniversary of Jericho and to bring political prisoners to the
fore in this era of uber-repression. We're sending a spoke to 10/10
coalition meetings, trying to get anarchist folks out, and scheming a way
to publicize RNC repression at 10/10 events.

There's a real overlap between the repression of anarchists at street
demonstrations, the Green Scare, and the roster of political prisoners
that's been growing since the 60s and 70s. Any movement seeking radical
change will find its members attacked and imprisoned, and so developing a
strategy that includes political prisoners is an indispensable part of any
revolutionary movement. Mobilizing for political prisoners can build this
strategy, garner support for our people inside, and develop real
solidarity with groups of other ages, colors, or political affiliations
who are weathering the police state.

If you wanna get involved with the new working group or have any other
questions, send an e-mail to kilroy [at] riseup [dot] net.
