(en) France: Demonstrate against the pope's visit on 12 September [fr, it]

Date Thu, 11 Sep 2008 12:26:20 +0300

Benedict XVI - we're ready for you! --- From 12 to 16 September, the pope Joseph
Ratzinger (aka Benedict XVI) will be on tour in France and will be received by
Sarkozy and the government. ---- As a supporter of religion as a means of social
pacification, Sarkozy has no hesitation in rolling out the red carpet for the
Catholic church, an institution that has always preached a return to moral
order: condemnations of homosexuality, attacks on the right of women to make
decisions regarding their own bodies (IVF, contraception), denunciations of the
use of condoms. To that must be added its absolute and uncritical support for
numerous reactionary regimes, its permanent battle to prevent the emancipation
of the workers and in general any progressive advance that the people have won
for themselves.

We reject all interference in society by religions. Our vigilance against
religions is above all a concrete struggle, for the right of women to choose,
for respect for the dignity and rights of homosexuals, for the freedom of
expression, for the defence of public, secular education and health systems, for
the right of every individual to live, love and die as they see fit. We defend
the fullest possible respect for the development and autonomy of the individual.
This is a project that requires collective struggle for social emancipation.

While the pope will be speaking at Notre Dame in Paris, Alternative Libertaire
appeals for the maximum participation in the demonstration organized by the
"Remballe ton pape" Collective (which groups together many associations and
organizations - http://remballe-ton-pape.over-blog.com ):

Friday 12 September, 6.30pm, Métro Filles-du-Calvaire.
