(en) The crisis arms the hand of the state - Press release by Correspondance Committe of Italian Anarchist Federation
Date

THE CRISIS ARMS THE HAND OF THE STATE ---- The events that are going on in
Athens and in Greece show that the economical crisis arms the hand of the state
once again. The state's violence, shameless and cruel, comes back as a strategy
to try a way out from the bottleneck in which the institutions find themselves.
That's why Greece is such a metaphor of western world, with a very corrupt
ruling class, with an increasing unemployment, with a gradual social devastation
caused by the privatization of public services and a general impoverishment of
the people. In Greece, and in Italy as well, the precariousness of life joins
the uncertainty of future and a worsening of repression against social movements
But there are other resemblances between the crimes made by the repression in
Italy before and in Greece later. If Carlo Giuliani was killed by a shot in air
(and nobody knows who really shot, as the official version reported) diverted by
a flying stone, young Alexis Grigoropoulos has been fired in Athens (maybe for
an accident, as the official version reported) by a bullet bounced on the ground.
In Italy, during a recent demonstration for public school in Piazza Navona,
fascists have been supported by policemen as many Tv shorts reported where you
can see an officer agreeing with a fascist after their provocation was made. In
Greece, the fascists have been supporting the police charging protesters and
causing devastations, and they have attacked anarchists and burned squats.
We want to underline these operative analogies just because they show the same
strategy used by governments and repression forces to face the hard social
problems caused by the crisis of western capitalism system.
We deeply express our sorrow to the family and to the friends of Alexis
Grigoropoulos killed by greek police.
We support the fight of greek people and the fight of the other peoples who
stand to set themselves free from economic power and political repression.
We give our solidarity to greek anarchists who fight in the front against power
to build a deeply different society, finally rid of the misery, the cynism and
the violence of power.
