(en) Turkey, Istanbul/Izmir, demonstrations of solidarity with the Greek anarchists

Date Fri, 12 Dec 2008 08:53:28 +0200

Another gesture of solidarity with the Greek anarchists who have turned Greece
into a massive bonfire following the murder of a 15 year old anarchist by greek
police was shown in Istanbul. Today at 2pm the Greek Embassy, found on one of
the busiest pedestrian streets in Istanbul, and another building where visa
procedures for Greece take place, were painted red by anarchists.
Coming from two opposite ends of the street, Taksim and Galatasaray, anarchists
marched towards the embassy chanting "States are Murderers, Cops are Murderers"
and carrying signs which read "Police are killers everywhere." The most
interesting banner during the demonstration was by "High schooler A Activity"
and read "We are also 16 years old." High school student anarchists were also
present to voice their reaction to the murder of one of their peers. Under the
curious looks of those passing by anarchists started to empty the red paint they
had brought with them all over the building and the street in front of it
turning it into the sight of a bloodbath.

After one anarchist explained why the action had taken place lightbulbs filled
with red paint were thrown to the buildings top floors and windows. A circle-A
anarchy symbol was painted on the front sign of the embassy building and a greek
banner reading "Police are Killers Everywhere" and a turkish banner reading "We
are also 16 years old" was hung in front of the building.

After this action was pulled-off on Istiklal Street without any police presence
the group proceeded to the building on a side street where visa procedures take
place. Red paint filled lightbulbs were also thrown at the building here. Not
encountering any police here either the group left chanting "Police are killers
everywhere" without any detainments. Police arrived at the scene to investigate
a while after the action was completed.

In Izmir there was graffitti at one of the main ferry terminals directly across
from the Greek Consulate, it read: "See the Fire in Athens"

---------------------- Leaflet --------------------

Greek Police murdered 16-year old Alexandros on the 6th of December.

He was murdered because; Alexandros had not accepted to be a part of the
exploitation and consumption of the capitalist machine.

He was murdered because; Alexandros was a part of a culture in which there is no
government and property, a culture in which the essential thing is sharing and
solidarity, a culture that consists of people who never agree with authority.

He was murdered because; Alexandros was an anarchist.

He was murdered because; police murder.

During the same recent days, the municipal police of the Turkish Republic
murdered another young man, 13 year old Bulent Calikiran.

He was murdered because; Bulent was selling handkerchiefs to buy a pair of pants
for a religious festival.

Police from the same state tortured and murdered Engin Ceber on the 10th of October.

He was murdered because; Engin was in a demonstration protesting the government
whose police shot his friend and are still free

Governments are killing our fellows; in these conditions, rioting is unavoidable.
