(en) Croatia: Report on the Third Annual Anarchist Bookfair in Zagreb, March 30th to April 1st, 2007

Anarhistic(ki sajam knjiga (Anarchist Bookfair in Zagreb/Croatia) started March
30.2007 in the place of Zelena Akcija (Green Action) around 3 p.m. Although
this place is less than one from last year, it is enough big for publishers and
organisations which will represent themselves. Different people came, from
subculture to the mothers with children. Publishers came from different
countries (Croatia, Serbia, Belgium, France, Austria, etc). I liked mostly
place of Croatian publisher "?to c(ita?" (What You Read), organisation from
France "Federation Anarchiste" (they have and Radio Libertaire in Paris) and
Anfema ("Anarcha-Feminist Action" from Croatia).
At first floor was organising of podium discussions. In friday, thema was
"Students Protest in Belgrade 2007", Tadej From Anarcho-Syndicalist Initiative
spoke about the way how students organised themselves with hope that Croatian
students could do something like it. There showed pictures from protest also.
Second podium discussion was "Architecture is Political Statement". Architect
Zvonimir Kontrec spoke about his view of architecture, urbanisation, etc. For
me it was confused and I slept because last night I didn't sleep. This man was
cool for me, I drank some beers with him, but his speaking was not so clear for me.
Saturday was the day with the most interestings podium discussions:
"Representing of anarcha-feminist festival", "Resistance to militarism in
Israel and anarchist against the wall" and "Anarchism and education". 3
organisers spoke about first thema. They discussed about programm of festival,
about some scandal in Ljubljana/Slovenia at anarcha-feminist fest, about
anarcha-feminism generally also. They made positive impressions so I will try
to visit this happening. Professor at one of Zagreb's faculty, Hrvoje Juric',
spoke about "Anarchism and education". In public were one more professor and
students and people from secondary school (p.s. in our region is primary school
8 years and secondary school is 3 and 4 years). At this point I saw that some
people think that they are minority, so they don't think that pupils will
accept it, but I think that such approach is wrong. Tadej made some important
comments, I didn't want to criticise because it is not "my habit" to make
negative opinion in front of so many people. About noon, group Food Not Bombs
gave vegan meal for free. I like FNBs and I hope such actions will be made more
and more.
So, this fair made good impression on me so I hardly wait for next one. I
sugested to organisers to make a webforum for participators and visitors of
this event.
