Hi everyone, Happy new year! Jura Books has lots planned for 2007, and we'd love you to come along for the ride! --- Working bees and Strategic Directions --- We've already been hard at work this year, with a series of working bees to improve Jura. The shop is looking better than ever, with more couch space, more posters and a more open layout. We've also been working on the upstairs library - we've put over a hundred archive boxes into storage so that the library can be opened to the public in the near future. We've also improved the Jura computer network and website. The shop now has wireless internet, so feel free to bring in your laptop and share our connection. Check out the website to see the great new visual themes and heaps of new info: www.jura.org.au We've had a series of 'Strategic Directions' meetings, where we've tried to plan our goals for Jura. We've come up with 5 priorities for the next year...

1) Developing synergy:
We want to involve lots more people and groups in the Jura
project. We would love Jura to be a federation of different
groups. And we invite all interested groups and individuals
to come along and talk to us about using our space and
resources. We also want to do more stalls and reaching out
to people who've never had contact with anarchism before.

2) Celebrating Jura's 30th anniversary:
2007 marks 30 years of Jura existing! This is an amazing
achievement, and we want to celebrate this history and
foundation for future struggle. As well as a few big events
later in the year, we will be going on a massive fundraising
drive. We want to raise $30,000! It's time to pay off the
mortgage and stop wasting money on interest payments.

3) Creating the new society in the shell of the old
Well, this really means creating a nicer environment at Jura
(nicer furniture etc). But it also means that we want Jura to
be a model of environmental and social sustainability. We
want Jura to prefigure the sort of world we are trying to
create. One practical way this will happen is to carry on the
pro-feminist organising that we've been working on in the
last few years, and to facilitate an autonomous womyns
space/time at Jura.

4) Collectivisation, computerisation:
It's time for Jura to enter the 1990s, and computerise the
book ordering system! We are going to use free open source
software called 'infoshopkeeper' - developed by a group oSubject:

Hi everyone,

Happy new year!

Jura Books has lots planned for 2007, and we'd love you to
come along for the ride!

Working bees and Strategic Directions

software called 'infoshopkeeper' - developed by a group of
anarchist infoshops in the USA.

5) Putting anarchism on the political agenda in Sydney:
Our ultimate goal is, as always, to change the wider world.
Making this happen is not easy, but some of our ideas are:
publishing pamphlets at Jura, promoting workers control
and the workers control centre; taking anarchist material
to big rallies and trying to intervene - eg the 'Your Rights
at Work' rallies and International Womens Day.

We'd love to hear what you think of these priorities, and
even more we'd love you to help put them into practice.
Do you have other ideas? The next Jura working bee is on
Sunday February 4th from 12pm. Why not come along and
help paint and organise - see anarchy in action!

Thunder! Community Response to Sexual Assault
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
A great new group will be having their first meeting at Jura,
this Thursday (Jan 25th), at 5pm. This group is for anyone
interested in redefining relationships, unlearning rape
culture, and supporting survivors of sexual assault. This
collective will be part of a national network of groups
working on radical community responses to sexual assault.
The group is gender-inclusive and everyone is welcome.
Safer communities are radical!

----------------
Jura has just received a huge load of new books, including
long awaited Crimethinc publications, AK press and Astam
books. We've also got more of the funky Slingshot 2007
organisers. So if you missed the first shipment, come in
soon to choose from a range of colours and sizes.

G20 Trivia Night
------------------------
Jura people will be going along to (and providing some
prizes for) the Mutiny trivia night at the Abercrombie Hotel,
this Wednesday (24th Jan) at 6.30pm. Money raised will go
to legal support for those arrested at the recent G20 protest
in Melbourne. This is a great way to support our comrades
in Melbourne who faced harsh police violence at the protest
and now an irrational witch hunt afterwards.
