Date Tue, 10 Oct 2006 07:53:20 +0200

This weekend saw a spike of activity in Pittsburgh as the Uprise Counter
Recruitment Tour came to town and POG [Pittsburgh anarchist Organizing
Group] continued its ongoing anti-war efforts. On Friday Jeb Bush was
confronted on the street, forced into a closet and 2 activists were tazered
during confrontation with the police. Saturday POG, the Uprise Tour, and
Iraq Vets joined together to shut down the the local military recruitment
station. A symbolic wall (empty boxes with pictures of iraq dead on the
front) was built in front of the door. According to the police, the front
door of the station was smashed after the march left.

Friday, within an hour of arriving in Pittsburgh, two members of the
UPRISE Tour were tazed by the Pittsburgh police. this happened in
connection with the impromptu action against Jeb Bush/Santorum
organized by USWA staffers.

As we marched towards the Duquesne Club, someone spotted Jeb
Bush and members of POG and the UPRISE collective rushed
across the street to confront him. we yelled and shouted and got in
his face. We were soon joined by about a dozen steelworkers. Bush
was accompanied by only one security person and an aide.

After angrily dogging him for about a block, the security person
escorted him into a nearby T-station. we trailed Bush and company
down the escalator, where we were greeted by several port authority
police. they eventually spirited Bush into what appeared to be a
utility closet. they tazed (using the stun gun position) and attempted
to arrest one of the members of UPRISE, but he was successfully
unarrested. one person involved with the unnarrest was himself
tazed in the hand.

The two UPRISE members are ok, though a little shaky. But
everyone feels good about getting in Bush's face - he looked totally
shocked. The USWA members seemed to appreciate the effort, too.
