(en) US, NYC, Wed: A for Anarchy Street Theater and Outreach (and more!)

Date Sun, 26 Mar 2006 20:45:26 +0200

NYC Anarchists: Last weekend V for Vendetta premiered--and anarchists took
to the streets to inspire the thousands seeing the film to reject its liberal
politics and embrace the anarchism of the V for Vendetta graphic novel, the
inspiration for the movie. We distributed thousands of flyers and copies
of Crimethinc's Fighting for Our Lives, read revolutionary passages from
the V for Vendetta book aloud while dressed as the film's masked protagonist,
and engaged in dialogues with interested moviegoers.
Though opening weekend has passed, this campaign isn't over!
On Wednesday, March 29th at 11AM, we will hold an event at AMC
Theater on the south side of 42nd Street between 7th and 8th
Avenues. We'll have V costumes, banners, flyers, will do speakouts
and street theater, as V "assassinates" government and the state to
pave the way for freedom. This event will be part of an
international day of anarchist outreach and will be announced to
media. We especially need assistance with street theater acting and
costume-making. Contact Adam at (201) 928-2831 if you'd like to help.

If you can run copies for us, this would be a HUGE help! Or if
you'd like to chip in some we can pay for copies, we'd really
appreciate it. Contact Alan for details at (347) 612-8205 or email

We've gotten lots of comments about our website
http://aforanarchy.org. We're quite proud of it, but are the first
to admit that there's lots more that can be done with it. Any text,
graphics, or links you think we should add? Anything from another
website we should quote? Any typos or unclear explanations? Tell
us! We also welcome your original writing, art, etc, so get
creative! Right now, we could use help developing section on common
myths about anarchy, anarchist culture, false anarchisms (e.g.
anarcho-capitalism), and a myriad of other subjects.

Of course, we want people to do more than just surf the web in
isolation. We want to create opportunities for dialogue, make
anarchism accessible, and to expand the anarchist community. To this
end, we've accepted a generous offer from the good folks at
Bluestockings to hold an event (date and time TBA) that will serve
as an introduction to anarchy for newcomers, using the film and this
campaign as a starting point. We will promote the event on the
flyers we distribute at movie theaters. To create a truly
collective, anti-authoritarian spirit, we've decided to eschew a
formal panel of expert speakers, and use a more discussion oriented
format. Nonetheless, we think it will be important to have people in
attendance who are knowledgeable in anarchist history, theory, and
have a good understanding of the movement today. Contact Alan if
you'd like to attend in this role or if you'd like to help plan or
promote this event. And of course, all are welcome to attend.

A for Anarchy has been organized by a non-sectarian, ad hoc working
group. We are an open group and welcome others to get
involved. Participants range from primitivists to platformists to
insurrectionists. We recognize that thought we have vast differences
in our worldviews, we have enough in common to come together to
engage people who've never heard of anarchy or thing it means violent
chaos, give them access to anarchist resources, and allow them to
draw their own conclusions as to what vision of anarchy makes the
most sense to them. We are trying to involve anarchist groups
EVERYWHERE (contact A. if you'd like toassist in developing a list
of anarchist group email addresses. And we encourage all interested
anarchists get involved in organizing and strategizing. If you'd
like to participate, send an email to aforanarchy-subscribe-A-lists.riseup.net.

Thanks in advance for your help--we'll see you at the movies!
