(en) US, BURN Twin cities (building urban resistance networks) II- meeting wed mar 22nd]

Date Fri, 17 Mar 2006 08:21:52 +0200

One and all are invited to participate in a collaborative effort to
organize another BURN conference in the Twin Cities. We want to get a
ton of radical groups, individuals, and projects a chance to
collaborate, network, and build resistance. Come on down and help us!

Proposal for BURN Twin Cities II
Hi, this is a proposal for a sequel to the first BURN conference that
was held in 2002. 4 years later radical anti-authoritarian movements
in the United States have largely retreated from public view, becoming
absorbed in their own projects and scenes. While we don't see this as
a necessarily bad thing we do think that the Twin Cities radical and
anarcho scenes could benefit from sharing the tools of resistance that
we've been honing these last years.

We don't see the conference as an opportunity to recruit new people,
or to build one giant organization, or even our last chance to get to
like one another. It's a chance to realize our common situations,
goals, and enemies. It's a chance to explore the many facets of music,
ideals, cultural behaviors and assumptions, literatures, lifestyle,
activism, and history that make up our informal `culture of
resistance' and that, themselves, embody a rough sketch in our vision
of a new world.

It also seems like, at a time when there is perhaps the largest
crackdown on natural rights in U.S. history; when activists are being
entrapped in government conspiracies, and a brutal and unpopular war
is being waged justified by fear, that there is not only a space, but
a need
for radical voices with visions of hope, resistance, and community to
break the monopoly of the old ineffective political institutions.
This is why we'd propose a radical reclamation of our public space,
culture, and community in the week preceding Mayday.

The conference would be a number of decentralized events in the week
before Mayday held all over the city but united by this common
purpose. The events could be autonomously organized by local groups
and administrated as a whole conference by BURN interested groups,
meaning, we'd help people who wanted to do a workshop or event to find
a space. We've started planning the logistics for a Mayday Zine and
Book Fair on Saturday from 12-7 pm and a carnival of resistance for
that evening from 5-7pm. On Sunday we were hoping to get a large block
of people to march in the Powderhorn Mayday parade to put a public
face on resistance. Other than that the events could include whatever
groups were interested in and focused on; classes, worshops, shows,
drama, and even... lectures. We also want other anti-authoritarians to
sponsor the conference. Please get involved! Nothing ever burns down
by itself!
