(en) US, NYC, Wed, 3/8: V for Vendetta Meeting (WITH LOCATION)

Date Sat, 11 Mar 2006 13:58:51 +0200

The folks working on an anarchist response to the V for Vendetta film
want to put out a call to anarchists everywhere encouraging them to use
the film as an opportunity for mass outreach. Does anyone have advice on
where we should be posting this call or who we should be emailing it to?
Are there good directories of contacts that anyone can recommend? Other ideas?
The next V for Vendetta organizing meeting will be on Wednesday at 5
PM at Herald Square Market at 5th Avenue between 35th and 36th
Streets. This is THE SAME LOCATION as the Manhattan Local meeting of
NYMAA (meeting at 7PM), which will allow folks to attend parts of both.
We will be watching a film at the meeting, and depending on whether
we are able to get a VHS or DVD copy, we will be meeting in one of
two locations (both in the Herald Square-Garment District-North
Chelsea vicinity-- one has a TV/VCR, but if we use DVD we can just
play it on a laptop in a deli). I will announce the final details as
soon as they are decided. If you aren't able to check email tomorrow
night or Wednesday, just give me a call at (201) 928-2831 and I can
give you the details.

Oh, and since folks will be nearby anyway, please consider attending
this event:

Wednesday, March 8th, Trash Tour

food every year! Join us to recover unsold, wasted food and other
commodities to keep, share, and redistribute.
When & Where? Meet at 9pm in front of the grocery on the west side of 3rd
Ave. btwn. 38th & 39th Sts.

V for Vendetta is a major movie that will be released on March
17th. It is based on a comic book series (later collected into a
single volume) about an anarchist insurrectionary who overthrows a
fascist British government subsequent to a nuclear
war). Unfortunately, yet perhaps not surprisingly, the film has
eliminated all references to anarchism. Alan Moore, the author of the
V for Vendetta comic book has entirely disavowed the movie, refused
to have his name used on it or accept royalties from it, and
even left the publisher that released V (and arranged the film) in
protest of inaccurate statements by the film's producer saying Alan
loved the script of the film.

We are interested in letting moviegoers know for V for Vendetta is
REALLY about and using this film as an opportunity to promote
anarchism to millions.

Items discussed will include (though we may not necessarily do all of
these things):

* A V for Vendetta book discussion group
* Preparing literature to distribute at screenings of the film.
* Engaging anarchists in other cities in this project.
* A website
* Media outreach
* Involving Alan Moore
* Street theater, lit tables, and more!

Join us!

See everyone soon!
