Demonstration at Home Depot - Saturday March 11th
MEET at Keele Subway Station at 3:00pm
The process of gentrification and racial cleansing taking place in New
Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina is a brutal example of what
governments have in mind for poor communities here and across the
continent. The mass displacement of thousands of poor New Orleans
residents is mirrored in the demolition of Regent Park here in downtown
Toronto and in the social cleansing policies being passed by every level
of government.

On March 15th the United States Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
will take the attack on New Orleans residents to the next level by
evicting those who were displaced during the storm, from their temporary
hotel accommodations.
Those evicted will join the tens of thousands of others with no place to go.

The Home Depot, who were behind the 2002 eviction of Toronto's Tent City,
are hoping to cash-in on this government enforced misery by leasing six
acres of a New Orleans public housing development which could be used as
long-term housing for returning or evicted residents and instead setting
up a building supply store.

Ninety percent of public housing residents in New Orleans have been forced
out of the city and can't return. Thousands more will be evicted next

Join OCAP in taking the fight to Home Depot-
