(en) US Phoenix: Anarchists hold counter-demonstration against Minuteklan

Date Tue, 13 Jun 2006 10:48:37 +0300

Over 20 anarchists, most from the Phoenix Anarchist Coalition,
spent two hours in the harsh Phoenix heat for the fourth time in the
last few months confronting the Minuteklan types. This protest was
the smallest numbers the Minutemen have had since 2004, before
the group was a national news story for their border patrols. This was
also the best showing for Phoenix anarchists in confronting these
jerks, we had 20 people at an anti-Minuteman demo in early May,
but managed to add a few more to the mix this time around.
Phoenix anarchists came out to once again confront the Minutemen
and their supporters at the Mexican consulate in west Phoenix. The
latest action, on June 3, was by far the smallest of the Minuteman
protests at the consulate, by my count there were 50 of them,
compared to a protest held there two months ago when over 200
protested "the invasion."

One thing we've done really well here in Phoenix is pushing the
"Minutemen are racist" position in the media, and calling them on it
every chance we get to their faces. Well, they have not taken to
kindly to our comparison of their group to the Klan, after all they're
just a bunch of citizens doing the work the government won't do,
right? Meet Kevin Walsh (in the above photo, wearing a white shirt,
jeans, and sun glasses). Local national socialist (aka Nazi), sporting
a confederate stars and bars bandanna, and seig heiling through out
the demo. We pointed this out to the Minutemen, y'know, since they
claim to be a beacon of law and order, and, not until recently,
anti-racists (Ha!). Either they didn't care, or it was hard for them to
hear us over their chanting of "USA, USA, USA, USA."

The lawn chair commandos. A couple of geezers who couldn't
handle the 110 degree heat. If you can't stand in the heat for a couple
of hours at YOUR OWN protest, how are these goons going to
survive their own border patrols? Pathetic. Risking heat stroke,
anarchists stayed hydrated with tons of water, and stayed visible
calling the Minutemen out.

Blah, blah, blah. The usual, "America's listening to our movement,
shut down the border, send the invaders home, we're winning."

An anarchist woman with a very nice sign.

"No borders! No flags!" Another anarchist woman in the crowd of
Minutemen bringing an anti-nationalist message. Good luck finding
a Minuteman who could read this sign, though.

Until all are free,
Collin Sick
