(en) US, Boston Consulta for Direct Action vs. the War Machine

Date Wed, 18 Jan 2006 16:14:00 +0200

OPERATION: OVER http://operationover.freeyouth.net
This Thursday January 19 6PM 45 Mount Auburn Street Harvard Square T
Followed by the Hartford Consulta on Jan 21. Details below.
Call for a Spring of Resistance from the Free Youth Network
This spring will be the fourth spring of the war and occupation of Iraq.
The fourth spring of bombs over Baghdad and body bags full of young Iraqis
and working-class Americans. The fourth spring of tyranny and torture in
the name of freedom. The fourth spring of the armed robbery of the Iraqi
people, and the poor people and young people of Massachusetts.

So this spring, we, the Free Youth Network, ask you to join us in a
campaign of nonviolent direct action to confront, disrupt, and break down
the war machine. Right here in our own communities.

We call for a direct action campaign targeting all local links to the war
and the forces behind it, from the military recruiters occupying our
schools to the authorities planning a bioweapons lab in Roxbury to the
corporations profiting off the murder of a people from their offices
downtown.

For years, the masters of war ignored us as we marched and rallied in
circles. But today, with resistance rising across the land, now is the
time to up the ante and stop them in their tracks.

These actions will be unlike the usual demonstrations. They will be
sustained and persistent. They will give us, not disappointment about our
impact, but energy for more and confidence in our own power.

We intend to force the powerful to blink. We intend to show that
continuing the occupation will only give them an ungovernable people and a
tide of dissent that will disrupt business as usual, beginning this March.

Now is the time to show glimpses of the other world that's possible.

Now is the time to declare the operation over.

Conceivable actions could include...

a mass day of action + citywide student strike on the anniversary of the
war - blockades and shutdowns - site occupations - picket lines -
disruptions - workplace actions - educational actions - media actions -
arts actions - neighborhood assemblies - memorials - festivals - street
theater

This campaign will be organized horizontally, non-hierarchically, and
inclusively. We will make decisions together, striving for consensus, in a
spirit of solidarity. We envision a coalition of folks ranging from youth
and students to workers to community activists.

The kickoff meeting of the campaign will be a Boston Consulta this
Thursday, January 19, beginning at 6PM at 45 Mount Auburn Street near
Harvard Square. We hope to see you there.

This will be followed by a Regional Consulta on Saturday, January 21 -
from 9AM to 3PM in downtown Hartford, CT at Capital Community College, 950
Main Street - where we will meet with others mobilizing for direct actions
against the war machine throughout the Northeast this spring.
