(en) Britain, Bristol, Is this what Anarchy looks like? Disscuss!

Date Thu, 16 Feb 2006 18:33:42 +0200

Some people in Bristol in 2006 would agree with principles of
Horizontality, would agree that hierarchies aren’t the answer
and indeed are a big part of the problem.
Some would agree that when it comes to British semi-democracy:
red, blue and yellow are all just shades of grey, topcoats on a
camouflage green primer.
Some support a self-sustained society, a local community based on
fabrication and co-operation, not consumerism and exploitation.
Some like to party on Hakim Bey’s Pirate Island, but
wouldn’t want to live there.

Some just want to be left alone to play football, play music, sing
songs, weave wicker, do it themselves and really get to know their

Some have a burning desire for change, wake-up calls, no more lies,
and put the cause and struggle before their very lives.

Some would call all of these people Anarchists. Some would say
some of them. Some would say none of them. What would you say?

As Bristol Dissent dissolves back into the community, a breathing
space has been created that is an ideal time for reflection and
discussion. One of these discussions concerns our relation to a wider
concept, our place in the grand scheme of things, but also our
relation to each other. Are we all travelling on the same road, or even
in the same direction, and is it important that we do? Should our
individual definition of the ‘fool’ be suffered, convinced,
attacked or ignored?

On Wednesday 15th February, we will be talking about Anarchy. We
may discuss its definitions, appearances, meanings, past and future.
We may discuss individual examples or wider concepts. Whatever
we discuss, you will be welcome as an individual whatever your
personal point of view, experience, level of knowledge or interest.
We are not afraid of anyone’s ideas and are always willing to
change if convinced. Who are we? We are you!

PS. And, yes, we had the idea for the name before AOL, and, no,
our discussion will not be monitored, moderated or closed down!!
