(en) Britain, The anarchist Class War Threatened By Leeds Lamp Post Baroness.

Class War had a spot of interesting news recently. We have received a
threatening letter demanding that if flypostering/stickering in the
Leeds city centre area was not removed by the weekend then we would face
prosecution and a fine of £2500. Being that we have no knowledge of
where the paraphernalia was placed, and have absolutely no knowledge of
who posted said articles, it was a ridiculous request from an obviously
over-zealous and jobsworth council official. Neither do we give toss for
such threats. It seems that the good citizens of Leeds who are
responsible for placing the stickers have ruffled a few bureaucratic
feathers. What could be the cause? The untidiness of stickers dottered
around the city centre or the political message that they display?
Or could it be that the local city council plan to sell space for
advertising on lamp posts in a new pilot scheme that sees lamp posts
becoming the new advertising billboards that they plan to earn £800,000
a year from? No doubt poor housing estates will be priviledged to see
advertising outside their windows of cars they can't afford, or alcopop
adds outside their schools. We wonder what this money will be used for
as there seem to be more cuts lately than spending.

A similar money making venture was to put phone masts on top of tower
blocks which the residents disaproved of. To add salt to the wounds the
council has made £400,000 from the scheme but cant seem to find the
money to do up the residents flats, work that they've been waiting to be
carried out for around three years! Housing bosses agree that work needs
to be carried out but says it doesn't have the money to do it. Which
seems a bit rich when two great big money-spinners are sitting directly
above the miffed residents' heads!
Other financial scheming ventures have been encouraging traffic wardens
to pounce on people parked outside surgeries such as the Ashton View
surgery, or cutting home care for the elderley such as that which has
occured to Thomas Place, a 93 year old war veteran.

It seems Leeds City Council have their paws right in it and now they
want a war over lamp posts, a war that Class War are well and truly up for!
