(en) US, Collinsville, Illinois: Anarchist Opposition to Anti-Immigration Rally

Date Sat, 29 Apr 2006 14:37:11 +0300

Things have been heating up across the country due to all the uproar about immigration
issues, such as the bill HR4437, and the current vigilante-style "minuteman project."
Recently about 5,000 people came out in support of immigrants downtown at kiener
plaza on April 9th. And there have been calls for a general strike on May 1st,
which L.A. port drivers have already said they will be taking part in.
Some of us in STL heard that some people organzied a very small anti-illegal immigrant
rally in Collinsville Illinois, and we're going to do so again one week later.
So we got some banners and black, and red & black flags together (along
with an upside down american flag with "no borders" across the front of
it) to counter the class traitors that we're organizing the rally.

We in particular do not care if someone has legal papers or not. We
feel people should be able to determine what they do with their own
lives. Plus we have no respect for the law, the state or the economy.

As workers, we have way more in common with the exploited in and
outside of our country than the ruling class of this nation, or its
lackeys. So about 10 of us turned up in Collinsville, and we're going
to counter the anti-illegal immigrant rally, but they (being one
person) left. So we just stood on the corner with our signs anyway.

Then, a few hours later, we heard they we're back on a different
corner - a total of 4 of them. So we went over there to disrupt and
block their protest, our banners and flags being larger than theirs.

We also brought a boom-box and drowned them out with the
moving sounds of Sepultura (a brazillian metal band).

Some people yelled at us, some people yelled at them, some people
supported us, some people supported them, a few were confused as
to which side we we're taking since we we're side by side with the
people we were countering.

Some nice teenagers brought us a bunch of bottled water which we
we're thankful for.

We're pretty sure that we humiliated and frustrated them enough
that they won't try it again. So all in all it was a fun and successful
counter-demonstration. And we know that this is just the beginning
of resistance to the precarious lives we all lead together and that
more demonstrations and resistance will pop up.

counter-demonstration in Collinsville to the anti-illegal immigrant
