Date Sat, 08 Apr 2006 11:58:03 +0300

Bring the Ruckus cadre are traveling to Georgia to take part in the
Justice Organizing Program, from January 28th to February 10th
2006. They will participate in efforts to conduct outreach efforts to
family members and formerly incarcerated people. The Program will
culminate in the 24th Annual Poor People’s Day At The Capitol event in Atlanta.
The Justice Organizing Program (JOP) is a two-week organizer
training and leadership development program. The JOP recruits
formerly incarcerated people and family members as well others
from across the country to do mass outreach to those most affected
by the criminal justice system. Participants learn or hone practical
organizing skills through on-the-ground political work in the South.
Through popular education sessions participants learn to use the
human rights framework as an active organizing tool against racism
& economic exploitation, learn about the historical significance of
the South, and articulate the connections between criminal justice
work and economic needs. In July 2006 Communities United will be
coordinating Justice Summer, a month-long outreach program.

On the ground political work can include house visits, neighborhood
canvas, phone banking, participation in actions, meeting logistics, or
any other activities the campaign requires at the time.
