(en) US, Connecticut: Shut Down the War Machine!
Date
Sat, 01 Apr 2006 17:50:45 +0300
Starting on March 27th, the Southeastern CT Direct Action and
Nonviolent Civil Disobedience to Stop the War Coalition will shut
down the military recruiting center of New London, CT every
Monday in April. We are calling for anarchists, anti-authoritarians,
and their allies to join us in stopping the war and the military from
recruiting for its massacres of the people of Iraq, and needlessly
putting in harms way the poor and working class people of our
community by lying to them that they have no other alternative.
This weekly action will push the resistance to the war to a more
regular event, beginning with the momentum we hope to have
gained on March 20th, when demonstrations to shut down the
recruiting center in Norwich, CT, will also march to the office of
Rob Simmons to tell him what we think about his war-hawking. The
actions will then switch focus to the New London recrutment center
(turn left on Howard Street off of Bank Street at Colombus Circle).
There will be weekly demonstrations of resistance to the war and to
recruiters on:
March 27th
April 3rd
April 10th
April 17th
April 24th
The actions will start at 9AM, when the offices open, and should
stop shortly after we shut them down.
Southeastern CT Stop the War Coalition is a local caucus of anti-war
and peace and justice groups that formed on January 21st in
Hartford CT at the Direct Action to Stop the War Consulta organized
by the CLASH collective. Several local consultas later, the groups
endorsed a campaign of actions to stop the war, beginning on March
20th and continuing every week until May 1st, International Day of
the Worker, before which there will be another consulta to assess the
efficacy of the campaign and where the campaign will move from
there.
The groups involved include Voluntown Peace Trust, Global Call,
CCLeft (SDS chapter of Connecticut College), Southeastern CT
Peace and Justice, St. Francis House, Catholic Workers, War
Resister's League, and others.
Once again, we invite anarchists, anti-authoritarians, and their allies
to join us in shutting down the military recruiting center of New
London as a practical application of direct action to stop the war.
