(en) Poland: demos against repressions on 8th of november

Date Wed, 16 Nov 2005 08:55:55 +0200

On the 8th of november, solidarity actions with activists repressed
for voicing their opinions took place in different cities in Poland.
The prosecuted: Marek Kurzyniec, Agnieszka Wasieczko, Monika Gilewska,
Grzegorz Sobieszak, Adam Pazuryna, S³awomir Kmiotek, Rafa³ Szymborski,
Rafa³ B³achnio, Piotr Walczak, Micha³ Karawajczyk, Pawe³ Goleñ,
Mateusz Ch³adki, Mateusz Laszczkowski, Andrzej Smosarski, Jacek
Fenderson, Andrzej Do³ecki, Jan Sawicz have been accused under various
pretexts, such as assault on policeman, obstruction of duties of a
policeman and other absurd accusations some of which include: "waving
hands in front of a policeman" (that must have caused severe health
damage for the cop), or "grabbing the uniform of a standing policeman
and trying to run away with it".

Tha arrested activists are from different backgrounds, some are
anarchist federation members, some are leftists or belong to
organisations such as Amnesty International. They all have in common
one thing: they participated in demonstrations against war, against
the Council of Europe meeting in Warsaw, or have supported a social
struggle, such as the nurse's strike. On many occasions they have been
brutalized by the police. To add insult to injury, the police accused
the activists of beating the police.

Actions took place in Poznan, Gdansk, Warsaw, Katowice, Szczecin,
Wroclaw, Czestochowa and Krakow.
