(en) Poland, Demonstration/ Appeal for Marek K.

Date Sun, 06 Nov 2005 17:09:46 +0200

A demo was held in support of Marek Kurzyniec who is currently in
custody in Krakow for some outstanding issues. Marek is a well known
anarchist activist and one of the founding members of the Anarchist
Federation. He is the subject of a few cases, hence it is sometimes
confusing. He is one of 33 people who was arrested during a
demonstration against the war in Chechnya and Putin in general which
took place in Krakow last January. His charges are relatively minor but
being that he had numerous similar charges which resulted in suspended
sentences, they want to come down hard on him. It is likely that his
case can end in either a huge fine or prison sentence. Just to show that
they are serious bastards, the authorities decided to lock Marek up for
15 days in the run-up to his trial. Officially he is locked up because
he was sentenced to do some community service work and did not even
accept that as a sentence and refused to do it.

Marek's case is just one of many. We will be protesting on Tuesday
around Poland against repression. Demos will be held in Warsaw, Wroclaw,
Krakow, Poznan, Katowice, Lodz, Szczecin and Czestochowa.
