(en) US, Chicago Anarchist Halloween Parade

Date Wed, 02 Nov 2005 10:51:57 +0200

The second annual Anarchist Halloween Parade began on the 31st
of October, 2005, in Chicago's Wicker Park.
About 100 (to my best estimate!) people gathered in the park,
dressed in festive Halloween attire, in order to march through the
streets spreading the message of organized, creative anarchist resistance.
Representatives from the National Lawyers Guild, the Chicagoland
Anarchist Network, Chicago Food Not Bombs, the Radical
Cheerleaders, DePaul Students Against the War, Big Idea
Communications, and other groups were in attendance.
Last year, the cops weren't ready for us! This year, they were . . .

About 6 beat cops and one guy in charge (who will be retiring in 15
days!) were in attendance. They followed the march on foot, in
squad cars, and in undercover cars.

Marchers moved down Damen, on the sidewalk and in the streets,
through the city, finally arriving after an hour and a half at the
Halloween celebration in Boys Town.

Although there was no official legal or media support, marchers
self-organized jail and media support.

Two arrests were made near the beginning of the march. Those
arrested were taken to the 14th District cop shop on California,
where a group of over seven people waited for them to be released.
They were charged with disorderly conduct and got out of jail free on
I Bonds.

Chicks on Bikes - Thanks for the Bikini Kill / Le Tigra!
Food Not Bombs - Thanks for the grub!
CAN - Thanks for everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This report was posted from the Apple store on Michigan Ave,
where you can always use technology for free!
