Kia ora koutou
This is a call-out to all people to get involved with the Peoples Global
Action! Next hui in Wellington/Te Whanganui-a-Tara: Saturday, 28th May,
1-3pm Newtown Community Centre (Corner Rintoul and Colombo Streets)
- Spokescouncil
- Skills
- G8 (international days of action)
- brainstorm/ideas for future events
Please let everyone know about this meeting and discuss in your networks how
you can be involved in PGA and the spokescouncil. If you were at the last
meeting (on 30th April) and haven't received the minutes please email

PGA HALLMARKS (www.agp.org):
1. A very clear rejection of capitalism, imperialism and feudalism; all
trade agreements, institutions and governments that promote destructive
globalisation; 2. We reject all forms and systems of domination and
discrimination including, but not limited to, patriarchy, racism and
religious fundamentalism of all creeds. We embrace the full dignity of all
human beings. 3. A confrontational attitude, since we do not think that
lobbying can have a major impact in such biased and undemocratic
organisations, in which transnational capital is the only real policy-maker;
4. A call to direct action and civil disobedience, support for social
movements' struggles, advocating forms of resistance which maximize respect
for life and oppressed peoples' rights, as well as the construction of local
alternatives to global capitalism; 5. An organisational philosophy based on
decentralisation and autonomy.

What is a Spokescouncil? (check out Austin Spokes: http://austinspokes.org)
A spokescouncil is the larger planning structure used in the affinity group
model to coordinate a mass action.

Each affinity group (or cluster) empowers a representative, called a
"spoke", to go to a spokescouncil meeting where important decisions are

For instance, if affinity groups need to decide on a legal/jail strategy,
possible tactical issues, meeting places, and many other logistics, these
would be discussed at the spokescouncil.

A spokescouncil does not take away an individual affinity group's autonomy
within an action; affinity groups make there own decisions about what they
want to do on the streets (as long as it fits in with any action

Direct democracy is an essential component to the spokescouncil meetings.
All decisions in spokescouncils are made by consensus, so that all affinity
groups have agreed and are committed to the mass direct action.
