(en) US, Houston, Alarm #2 Call for submissions: Making connections

Date Thu, 26 May 2005 23:19:14 +0300

The Alarm needs your help to put together its second issue. The Alarm is a
Houston publication inspired by Zapatismo and People’s Global Action,
which seeks to foster communication and mutual aid between local radical
groups and the greater Houston community and make connection between local
and global struggles.
The print run of the first issue exceeded 1,000 copies, full of
submissions from more than a dozen groups in Houston committed to building
a new world within the framework of People’s Global Action. It has been distributed
at concerts, protests, film screenings, and speaking events, as well as being
passed from friend to friend and being available at local radical spaces.

This in itself is valuable, but what we really envision is for The Alarm
to be a tool that groups in radical Houston communities can use to talk
about our struggles, where our movements are moving and illustrate the
connections of our common struggles. We need submissions from groups, old
and new about what projects and campaigns are being undertaken in Houston,
and how people can become involved in the process of our collective

The Alarm needs submissions from groups in Houston that support the
hallmarks of People’s Global Action. What you want to submit is wide open
get in touch if you have an unorthodox idea, The theme of this issue of
The Alarm is “Making Connections”.

We’d really love to see groups address our local group's relationships to
global struggles, as well as discussing the connections between the issues
your group is tackling and other struggles for liberation and

We’d also like to see:
*Information on what your organization has been up to since the last issue
(if you submitted to the last issue)
*What your organization is planning to work on in the near future
*Information about the issues that your organization is addressing, and
ways that folks reading The Alarm can get involved with your organization
or otherwise take action.

In addition to submissions from local groups (which is the primary goal of
The Alarm), we’re interested in submissions of articles or other resources
that would be useful to radical people in the Houston area (we’ve heard
ideas like, dumpster maps, radical history, responsible sexuality).

Submissions should be short, no more than 500 words (250 is more like it),
if you want to format your submission yourself (using either photoshop or
cut & paste), we would like you a lot.

We also need help with editing, design, and distribution, if you would
like to help The Alarm be an eloquent and widely heard voice of resistance
in Houston, please get in touch.

If you have any questions, submissions, offers for help or other ideas
please get in touch: alarm[at]riseup[dot]net or RoB, 1301 Richmond, apt.
