The Concept
Anarchy Bus will be an international group of activists. It will travel on
its first leg from Poland through the Baltics to Russia and Ukraine and on
its second through Romania, Bulgaria and Croatia*. It aims to: provide an
opportunity for anarchists activists to meet each other and to bring literature,
exhibitions, videos, etc. to various cities. There, we would like to meet with
anarchists, workers' activists and, when possible, do some public meetings.
(*No concrete plans have been made for the second leg yet, and there are
more and more opinions that these legs may be done by different groups or
in different years. More to follow)

Participation
There is no more room for travelling on the bus, therefore, further
participation in the travel may be organized by those who can organize their
own vehicles and will form a caravan. We are inviting then some people who
may want to join up. Groups may also participate by sending copies of
magazines, small exhibitions, photos of themselves or their actions with
some captions or text or videos for display and exchange during the
project.
We are especially interested in showing a wide range of positive projects
that anarchists are involved in throughout the world so this element of
participation is vital.

Support

The project also needs some financial support. It is very important that the
project be open not only to people from the West with enough money to pay
for their ride, but to activists from Russia who may not be able. We would
appreciate any small contributions people may give; this may be done over
the internet. (Contact cube at zigzag.pl for information.)

Summary of the Meeting

About 25 people from different cities in Russia (and someone from Belarus)

attended.

First, people discussed the concept of the bus. While most people liked the
concept, there were a few remarks. One person felt that such a bus only made
sense if it travelled to actions which might be held during the summer.
Although nobody really agreed with this assessment, in general people
thought that if some campaigns were being held in the summer at the same
time, it would make sense if the bus could try to go there as there would
be some collection of activists there and probably some public meetings.
There are eight potential actions/ event planned for this summer in Russia but
the calendar of dates is not set yet. Because of this, we are not sure if
exact dates and routes will be set earlier and how many of these events may be
taken into consideration. We agreed that the exact dates of the project
can be left until later.

People from various cities declared that they would like to host the bus
and it looks as if the route will start in Karelia, go south and east,
slightly into Siberia (Tyumen) and Bashkiria before returning through Southern
Russia and Ukraine. Such a route will take about 4 weeks, and we suppose that
most people will take part in segments. Due to the fact that so far we have
only one person with a bus license, there is a distinct possibility that the
vehicle will be limited to 8 passengers which is why we'd like to form a
caravan.

The was interest in Belarus in this project, but most people agreed that
it was not likely to get far in that country. There may be possibilities to
make a side trip on the train or a visit (without the bus) of a similar
nature.

People pointed out that in different locations, (for example in Bashkiria),
the project might not be able to organize street meetings or exhibits. It
was agreed that local people decide the character of actions and meetings in
their cities. People have been signed up to a mailing list on the action.

Finally, it was pointed out that there were one or two major potential
problems with the project. The first problem was the lack of bus drivers.
As
somebody knows a driver, it was agreed that people ask him if he was
interested, but rather, it is more likely that participation will be limited
to 8 people per segment per vehicle. The other problem is the situation with
spare parts which people promised to investigate. At that point, we can make
some decisions about which vehicle to take. The most important factor then
turned out to be money and we saw that we would need to raise an additional
1500 euro for the project.
It was stressed that should we not be able to raise this money by June, we
might have to consider rearranging or reorganizing the project. There are
several possibilities in such a case: putting it off until next year,
breaking it up into two years or going on the "second" leg of the trip
(Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia) first, provided the local people in those
places felt they had enough time. Therefore, despite the fact that time is
ticking, there is some chance that late changes may be made to the
project.
