(en) US, This week’s Infoshop/Flag update

Date Mon, 20 Jun 2005 16:39:53 +0300

I ot an update today from Dave about the status of the Infoshop/Flag
server. The server is down again and the websites should be offline for
most of this week. That's the bad news. The good news is that
Dave is working on the new server. He's got it connected to the
LAN at home. He's installed the latest version of FreeBSD and
is tweaking the server. Files from the old server are being transferred,
but it is a slow process. In a few days, Dave will install the server at
the hosting facility and we will spend some time configuring and
tweakign the box. At some point the IP address information will be
changed and those changes will take some time to propagate around
the Internet.

If all goes well, we should be back online by the end of the month.
The new server should be faster and we should have more bandwidth.
If we need more bandwidth it will be easy to add it, provided that we
have money to pay for it. Dave and I also talked about the need
afterwards to work with other radical ISPs to work out mutual back-up
and mirroring arrangements. I agree with Dave that radical ISPs need
to work more closely together for the benefit of all of our users.
