(en) Greece, Thessaloniki, Bahoz Demanding Political Asylum on 35th Day of Hunger Strike! [tr]

Date Mon, 20 Jun 2005 08:30:23 +0300

Zülküf Murat Bora (known as Bahoz) from Diyarbakir [Turkey/Kurdistan] who
had moved to Greece in 1995 and demanded political asylum because of
political repressions he had faced, had started hunger strike on 17th of
May 2005 despite 10 years have passed over and his demand of political
asylum has not been accepted yet.
Although other people having same conditions had won right of asylum,
related with his political activities Bahoz could not have the same right.
Bahoz is generally known with his relations with anarchist groups and his
active position in anti-racist struggle both in Thessaloniki and overall
Greece at least among political circles.

Bahoz who is a student in the department of journalism of Thessaloniki
University, had also faced problems in his registration to the university
related with his legal position in the country, that’s why he had won
right of registration with another hunger strike.

To have solidarity with Bahoz who is continuing his hunger strike in Roman
Arch (Kamara) located in Thessaloniki city center, Solidarity Assembly
with Zülküf Murat Bora (Bahoz) was formed with participation of anarchists
and anti-authoritarians.

In the beginning of last week the ministry declared that they have given
him right of humanitarian asylum. However, Bahoz from the beginning
declaring that his demand is political asylum rejects this and carrying on
his hunger strike. Humanitarian asylum means to have only one year of
residential permit. If he accepts this, at the end of one year his file
will be re-examined and they’ll re-decide whether the conditions related
with “humanitarian asylum” continue or not. This means the states is
openly playing a game; instead of giving political asylum by giving this
it continues to suspend the sword of Damocles above. From 15th of June
which was the 30th day of hunger strike, Bahoz had also left taking sugar
and salt.

Today it’s 35th day of the hunger strike and since now various activities
has been held in solidarity with Bahoz under the name of Solidarity
Assembly. For Thursday a march with participation of all anarchist groups
in Athens is being planned.
