(en) US, Minnesota, Pro-Choice Weekend: Two Days of Resistance and Celebration

Date Thu, 16 Jun 2005 08:46:07 +0300

This weekend let's show our resistance to the fundamentalists as they
descend upon the Twin Cities. The "National Right to Life" (
http://www.nrlc.org/convention/index.html ) one of the biggest
anti-choice organizations in the country is coming to the Twin Cities
to hold their annual national conference here. The anti-choice
movement has been making moves and is feeling a bit too comfortable.
With their boy George in the White House they think they are
unstoppable. Let's bring it back to the streets and make sure the
anti-choice crusaders know that Minneapolis is not a place that
welcomes those who would limit a woman's reproduction choices, or that
would harass, endanger, or otherwise intimidate women.

1st Day: Resistance

When: SATURDAY, June 18th, 1pm

Where: Snyder's Drugs

Located: at 66th and Lyndale Ave. South

Why: Due to the fact that the hotel where the National Right to Life
is meeting is in an isolated location let's create a counter
demonstration. A pharmacist at this drug store refused to fill a
local woman's birth control prescription, this is not acceptable.
Snyder's Pharmacies have told us that they fired the pharmacist but
when we asked them if they have a policy to combat this kind of
right-wing activism they avoided our questions and said that they have
no comment. This is not about one lone crazy right-wing pharmacist
but a growing trend across the nation. Let's show them that women's
access to health care is not up for debate.

2nd Day: Celebration:

When: Sunday, June 19th

Where: Powderhorn Park

Located: at the South East Corner, between the upper playground and
the park building

Why: To celebrate our resistance. Pro-choice potluck, kid friendly
picnic, we will play soccer and break a Piñata. Bring stuff to eat
and/or grill! Let's celebrate our life, our moms, our kids, and our
