FREE FILM PRESENTATION - GNN's Battleground Monday, July 18th, 2005
7pm at Ottawa Public Library (Metcalfe & Laurier)
donations to cover the cost of the room are gladly accepted
Join us for the film Battleground: 21 Days on the Empire's Edge.
From GNN's website: "In late 2003, two filmmakers from the Sundance
award-winning Guerrilla News Network spent three weeks on the frontlines of
the simmering guerrilla war in Iraq, gathering intelligence, dodging
bullets, and capturing the untold stories of what has become the world's
most covered, and misunderstood, conflict. Battleground is an intensely
emotional journey that will challenge the orthodoxies of Left and Right, and
highlight the humanity of all sides of the conflict. Battleground is a
critical film for anyone who wants to understand the powerful forces that
are sucking America deeper and deeper into a Middle Eastern quagmire."
Come out to see this important independent film and discuss how you can get
involved to fight imperialism at home, where it begins (visit http://gnn.tv/
for preview).

Join us for an incredible panel of speakers discussing the struggles to
resist imperialism in Palestine, Haiti and Kanesatake. Speakers will
discuss the importance of resistance and focus on how we can better
understand the scenarios and global power arrangements that perpetuate war
at home and abroad. CATAPULT! collective members will also facilitate a
discussion following the talks. We strongly encourage those familiar with
these struggles, as well as those looking for more information about what is
going on and what they can do to join us for this event. We are very lucky
to have such a diverse and well-informed panel of speakers, so please don't
miss this opportunity!!

12 noon at the War Memorial (Elgin & Sparks)

Ottawa is home to a complex network of war-profiteers, ranging from the
venture capitalists who finance the newest and most dangerous weapons of
war, the producers of those weapons, and the government agencies who sponsor
these endeavours.
CATAPULT! collective calls those who oppose war, occupation, and the
violence of capitalism to join us in a march that will highlight some of the
major players in this destructive network. We will tour the downtown of
Ottawa to show that the forces that create global instability,
ever-increasing disparities of wealth, and relentless environmental
destruction do not operate in some far-away place - they are here, in our
city, everyday!

Join us to tour these sites, learn more about what agencies and corporations
are profiting from war and terror, and what you can do to stop them. Please
bring banners, noise makers, chalk and your anti-fascist friends and

Sites that we will be visiting include: Canadian Council of Chief
Executives, Business Development Bank of Canada, Israeli Embassy, Industry
Canada, Delta Hotels, Raytheon, Immigration Canada, Public Safety and
Emergency Preparedness Canada, Export Development Corporation, Canadian
Defence Industries Association, Accenture and SNC-Lavalin.
The march begins at 12 noon at the war memorial and will conclude around 2pm
