At the start of 1934 in Portugal, the first republic was already practically
dead. The fascist government was in the process of repealing laws that
guaranteed, in the eyes of the new powers, too many rights to the workers. The
workers, though, decided not to passively sit back and watch the spectacle and
organized themselves. They came out onto the streets on the 18th January 1934,
in what was to be the first and only uprising of proletarian origin against
fascism in Portugal. It is about these people, their struggle, their courage
and the consequences they suffered that we will be talking, with space for
questions and debate, next Tuesday, at the Clã Destino, in Rua do Bonfim, 201,
traseiras, Porto. The event is organized by the Porto Libertarian Assembly -
