Dear Friends and Supporters, old and new, The Institute for Anarchist
Studies warmly invites you to our Soapbox Social, to be held at the
al-Alwan Center for the Arts, just a stone's throw away from the beating
heart of Capital (the New York Stock Exchange!)* Please come join the
Directors of the Institute, on the evening of Friday, February 18th 2005,
as we celebrate nine years of support for radical writers.
The evening begins at 7:00 pm, and includes a full Indian meal
(with meat and vegetarian dishes) served at approximately 8:00 pm. Board
members will provide updates about the Institute and our activities,
including the Renewing the Anarchist Tradition Conference in Vermont and
the Latin American Archives Project in Buenos Aires. Additionally, we
invite you to share information about your projects and activities. Feel
free to bring literature or get up on the soapbox!

Your sliding scale donation of $10-$25 includes dinner, beer, wine
and coffee, but do bring your check book to this fund-raiser as
well to support this year's group of radical scholars working to
develop the theoretical tools we need to build a just and free
society.

As space is limited, you must RSVP by February 15th, by phone at
646-351-9859 (Lex Bhagat) or by email to info@anarchist-studies.org. (And
let us know at that time if you should like a vegan dinner.) For full
details, see further information below.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Andréa Schmidt

*PS: Incendiary after-dinner parades to the Exchange are not scheduled,
but will surely not be discouraged!

ABOUT THE INSTITUTE FOR ANARCHIST STUDIES

The Institute for Anarchist Studies (IAS) was established as a non-profit
foundation in 1996 in order to support the development of anarchism
through a grant-giving program for radical writers. To date, the IAS has
funded over fifty projects by authors and translators from around the
world.

The IAS has grown significantly since its inception. In addition to
supporting projects like the Latin American Archives Project and
co-sponsoring the Renewing the Anarchist Tradition conference, the IAS
also publishes a biannual magazine, "Perspectives on Anarchist Theory," as
a forum in which to frame, explore, and debate questions of significance
to contemporary anarchist theory and practice.

The IAS relies entirely on contributions from generous individuals around
the world to be able to carry out its programs.
