Born in Hopa, Kazim Koyuncu is 33 years old. In 1993 he has formed the first Laz*
rock music band of the world "Zugasi Berepe" (Children of the Sea) with Mehmedali
Baris Besli. He had significant contributions to the development of Laz music
and culture, in 2001 he has released his own solo album Viya. He has never hide
his critiques about capitalism, the dominant system and popular culture. He was
one of those who has rised his voice against use of the cyanide in gold leaching
process in Artvin and Bergama, nuclear/thermic/hidrolic power plants in Akkuyu,
Gökova, Valley of Storms and lastly against Samsun-Sarp Seaside Road Project. He
has participated conscientious objection declarations, and with his songs he took
place in many concerts and activities against Iraq occupation and NATO.

Kazim Koyuncu is preparing his concert that will be organized
in Istanbul-Yeni Melek Show Center on 4th of February at 21:00 with his
new detected tumours in his body, that is to say with cancer disease:

"With the best chance I'll not have a concert until June. There is only
one letter of difference between cancer and concert.*** I don't care
anything, I'll have my concert in Yeni Melek. My friends should not
feel sorry for that, I'll come with my usual pert, rapt humour and
sing my songs."

And Cernobil nuclear accident in 1986; like others living in nearby
areas, 14 years old Kazim was among those people on which it rained:

"We all have tumours and in specific periods of our lives radiation or
some other factors trigger and turn it to cancer. After the disaster,
a minister -whom I even can not remember his name- had drank radioactive
tea saying 'it is good'; this is not only a problem of wisdom also a crime.
After Cernobil, rehabilitation centers would be founded for early diagnosis
and thousands of people might not die. Even there is no statistics about in
which city how many people have caught cancer. This country do not need
politicians, liars. I think such insensitive administrators are enemies
of the people"

In Igzas which he released on the end of 98 as Zugasi Berepe he was saying:

"We did not fight for a place where land owners, multinational
corporations and comprador locals, gang owners and their adultors,
prime and its ministers, guards of the nations and their herds
stand. We were in nowhere."

"...I am a musician, then I am from the Black Sea but above all
I am a revolutionary. And I do not hesitate to bring up a matter
that I really think to be true."
