Friday a 100-120 people (among them many anarchists) held a
demonstration against the summit of EU Ministers of Defense in
Noordwijk, the Netherlands. The main goal of the summit was talking
about turning Europe into a military giant not unlike the US. The
direct outcome of the summit now seems to be that a number of EU
countries (among them the Netherlands) will create a general
European military police.
Near the hotel where the summit was being held there was a
sickening display of military equipment (Apaches, Fenneks, Patriot
launchers).

Of course the small town of Noordwijk was crawling with all sorts of
cops who were pretty nervous about the demonstration, although
initially nothing happened. However, just as the protesters were
walking back to the bus a number of them (I guess about 50)
suddenly decided they would try and reach the summit hotel via the
beach. Some managed to get within 50 meters of the site before they
were stopped. As expected the police behaved pretty violently and
arrested 13 people.

In the evening a noise demo was held at the police station in Leiden
where the arrestees were being detained. I think the remaining
arrestees (those who refused to give their names) will be released
today (Saturday).

Solidarity with the arrestees
