Wednesday, October 27, 7:00 pm Room 102 Jack Purcell Community Centre
(new folx and OPIRGers welcome) Note: since we aim to join the
OPIRG-Carlton community meeting at 8PM, we ask folks to be punctual.
+ Enough IS Enough +
The shit is hitting the fan at an alarming rate and we need to fucking
recognize that and get organized! That has been made even more clear this
week with police abduction at the courthouse of an anti-poverty activist,
the threats against the PIRGs, the Seven Year Squat trial, the continued
use and abuse of the Safe Streets Act against panhandlers who fight for
their rights and those of others, and on, and on...

ANTI-CAPITALIST COMMUNITY ACTION
WHAT IS ACA?
Anti-Capitalist Community Action (ACA) is an Ottawa-Outaouais–based group
focusing on local and global struggles against capitalism and imperialism.
ACA works in solidarity with other groups such as the Ontario Coalition
Against Poverty.
As a revolutionary anti-capitalist group our goal is to achieve a
decentralized, non-hierarchical, directly democratic, and non-oppressive
society. ACA is dedicated to fighting against all forms of oppression.
PROJECTS
Raise the Rates. ACA is working on the province-wide Raise the Rates
campaign. We demand a 40% rate increase to Welfare and Ontario Disability
rates. After eight and a half years of brutal Tory rule, and now a year of
Liberal excuses, welfare and ODSP rates are shamefully inadequate. It is
impossible to make ends meet when the cost of living goes up while cheques
are LESS than they were before Mike Harris took power in 1995.
Angry Girrls. angry girrls is a group of radical women that came out of our
frustrations with the exploitation of our bodies and lives, as well as our
dreams of a world free of sexism, patriarchy and all oppression. we have
been involved in putting out a zine, having stitch and bitches/making
menstrual pads, and have much more planned! we will not be told to behave
or ask permission for our equality.
Housing Issues. ACA was one of the groups involved in the 7 Year Squat in
2002. More militant housing actions are planned for the future. We worked
in solidarity with the 2004 tent city protest at Ottawa City Hall.
Popular Education. we regularly present talks and workshops about a wide
variety of issues.
Black and Red Flying Squad. we attempt to make links between worker's
struggles and other struggles. We support worker's struggles through
picket-line support and direct action.
Anti-imperialism. as part of the Coalition for Peace in Iraq, ACA drew links
between imperialist wars abroad and the war at home against refugees and the
poor.
BASIS OF UNITY
As a starting framework, ACA has adopted the People's Global Action
hallmarks as our basis of unity (see http://www.agp.org/):
1. A very clear rejection of capitalism, imperialism and feudalism; all
trade agreements, institutions and governments that promote destructive
globalization.
2. We reject all forms and systems of domination and discrimination
including, but not limited to, patriarchy, racism and religious
fundamentalism of all creeds. We embrace the full dignity of all human
beings.
3. A confrontational attitude, since we do not think that lobbying can have
a major impact in such biased and undemocratic organizations, in which
transnational capital is the only real policy-maker;
4. A call to direct action and civil disobedience, support for social
movements’ struggles, advocating forms of resistance which maximize respect
for life and oppressed peoples' rights, as well as the construction of local
alternatives to global capitalism.
5. An organizational philosophy based on decentralization and autonomy.
