Meetup over the weekend of November 6-7th was, according to everyone I talked
to, a huge success. Over 70 people from at least 5 cities attended, most meeting
for the first time. Workshops covered a variety of topics from relationships to
Palestine, and the atmosphere was all-around positive. Spontaneous workshops
formed over a variety of issues, and I was impressed by the amount of meaningful
discussions I had compared to my experience at other conferences.
One of the primary objectives of the conference was to open up discussion over
I-69 (a.k.a. the NAFTA Superhighway), a proposed highway extension which will
cut through towns, forests, and farms from Indianapolis to Evansville at the
southern tip. This highway extension is part of a larger project
which will ultimately connect a single highway from Canada to
the Plan Puebla Panama infrastructure. Across the two days,
consensus was reached in a several-part discussion that: 1)
This is a part of global capitalist planning that will be opposed
by a wide variety of people in the state. 2) Anarchists in every
city represented both desire to and plan to work together to
build a direct-action based state-wide campaign against I-69. 3)
This project can expose a large number of people to our
conviction that capitalism is a global institution that is
diametrically opposed to the interests of our communities.

It was also agreed that whilst this campaign is organized, there
will be another state-wide meetup hosted in the spring, also in
Indianapolis. Contact indyanarchists@yahoo.com for more
