[The EOCI Prisoner Collective is asking anyone with the means to please
spread the message and consider making a donation to Lawrence Anarchist
Black Cross (c/o Dave Strano, P.O. Box 1483, Lawrence, KS 66044) for the
disciplinary fines they expect to receive.]
Update on the situation at Eastern Oregon Correctional Institution in
Pendleton, Oregon from a letter dated 5-12-04 and received on 5-17-04.
In the last couple of days, something like 50 guys [including the author
of this letter] were rounded up in 3 big sweeps and put in the hole
without a "disciplinary charge." We are ("officially") classified as
being under "pre-investigation Administrative Segregation," which means
that within 5 working days of 5-11 (5-10 for some of us) a "hearings
officer" must review the state's evidence and decide if there is sufficent
cause to keep us in the hole to "protect the safety, security, and orderly
operation of the facility." This means that several things could happen:

They could just let all/some of us out in a couple of days when they think
things have "blown over"

They could ship us out to different prisons in the next few days to
"diffuse the situation"

They could fabricate some sort of evidence to give all/some of us actual
disciplinary sanctions

They could decide we qualify for "administrative segregation" and leave us
in here for several months, until they either decide to move us or let us
back out on the mainline

I have no way of knowing for sure what will happen, but my instincts say
it will be [one of the first two possibilities], because a huge amount of
time and effort would be involved if they tried to "write up" every single
one of us and go through the review porcess. If there was any real
"evidence" against any of us, we would probably already have "write ups."

In the middle of writing this, they sent like 10 of us out to Two Rivers
[Correctional Institution in Umatilla, Oregon]...just like I figured.
Rumor has it that more of us are gonna be sent out tomorrow...

That's the end of the letter. If you want to contact the prison and
express your concern for these 50 men put into administrative segregation
without any disciplinary charge, call Superintendent Sharon Blacketter at
541-278-3602.

Thanks a lot for all your help and support and we'll send out more info as
it comes to the Lawrence ABC mailbox.
