The Walthamstow Anarchist Group was created in late 2001 by a small group of activists
intent on putting their beliefs into practice on a local as well as global scale.
Like all anarchists who practice what they preach, we organize in a non-hierarchical
and purely voluntary manner: each of us liberated of prejudice, we interact as free
equals and with an emphasis on fun! While recognizing the need for organization in
struggle, we do so without leaders, and without any of us being forced into taking on
tasks that we don't wish to. Without any 'party line' to adhere to, members are free
to have nuanced or radically different opinions on various issues -- consensus is
only necessary when it comes to group projects.

These projects are discussed at our regular meetings (usually
held on alternate weeks in public places). We rotate the task
of chairperson - as we try to with all tasks - so as to prevent
the formalization of 'roles': while each of us has his or her
own strengths and weaknesses, we try as best we can to avoid the
emergence of a division of labor.

Some ongoing projects of ours include:
- Our quarterly newsletter, The Underdog
- Involvement in the Reclaim Our Cinema campaign
- This web site
- Posters and stickers (which you may have seen!)
- Regular internal theoretical debates
- Participation in national demonstrations (look out for our banner!)

Some past projects:
- Public meetings on various topics
- Hosting a talk by Robert King Wilkerson, an ex-Black Panther and political prisoner
- Film screenings (OK, just one so far)
- Activism against the local Territorial Army base
- Stalls at local and radical events
- Leaflets on various topics, distributed locally
- A benefit gig with (sadly now defunct) local band Thatcher's Children

While our group is small (we currently have about half a dozen
regular members), we think the above proves that we can nonetheless
achieve a significant amount.

None of us is rich (if only!), and as advocates of equality it goes
without saying that we have no wealthy financial backers. The little
money that we operate on comes from donations and our own small budgets.

Anarchism has never been an ideology set in stone; we are always open
to new ideas. If you agree with the basic tenets of our theory and
praxis and wish to get involved, please contact us by phone or email,
or via our PO box.
