Due to the U.S. government’s declaration of war against Iraq, on March 20,
2003, an estimated 15,000 Chicagoans marched in the streets of downtown,
along with acts of opposition across the world. Fueled by their anger
against the U.S. Government’s decision to wage war, the march resulted in
the take over of Lake Shore Drive. Not only are the Iraqi people still
suffering, but the U.S. government is slowly decreasing our ability to
oppose their inhumane capitalist atrocities. One year later, the
opposition is strong, our voices WILL be heard again!!
Come Walk Against:
-The U.S. occupation and war against Iraq
-The U.S. occupation of Afghanistan and Haiti
-The U.S. support of Israeli forces against the Palestinian people

-The U.S. Government’s anti-terrorist agenda, resulting in the decrease of
civil rights and the unlawful surveillance and criminalization of

us at any of the rally points along the route. Think its over after

So, WHY a 30-Mile Walk Against War?

We aim to bring our positive messages to the
communities & peoples
throughout Chicago. We hope to demonstrate to people
that we are willing
to go to great lengths to further the struggle against
the war as well as
show our passion for justice. We are indignant over
the atrocities that
have occurred as a result of our government and it’s
“war against
terror.” Our moral beliefs compel us to take action
against the wars of
our government and against other institutions
complicit in the current
wars around the world. We take action with the belief
that we are going
to stop the current wars. Our objective is to raise
the hope and
awareness of people throughout Chicago and the world.
There have been
many walks against cancer, aids & many other important
issues. There will
be no money raised through our walk, we intend to
raise something much
stronger- The consciousness of people! This is just
the beginning! This
is one small step toward the building of a progressive
society without
war, exploitation, capitalism, destruction, etc… We
will not let the
issues die down. March 20 we are taking the issues to
the streets of
Chicago (not just downtown- all over Chicago!). Down
with war! Join us in
our walk toward a better future on March 20th!

We encourage everyone to find a location nearest you
on the map and be
there Saturday March 20th at the estimated time to
join us in the Walk
Against War. We may be a few minutes late, so please
be patient.

Student & Youth info:

In solidarity with the demonstration and march being
planned for March 20
the Education Not Empire (March 4) coalition is
calling for a student and
youth convergence and feeder march beginning at 10am
on the corner of
Halstead and Roosevelt. At approximately 10:36am we
will be joined by
other feeder marches coming from the southside and
Pilsen area and then
continue on together as one massive student and youth
contingent towards
the March 20 rally site at Michigan and Pearson.

We’ll have a short rally at Halstead and Roosevelt
while we wait for the
other feeder marches to arrive so bring buckets,
drums, signs, banners,
puppets, water, snacks, other essentials, and your
energy and enthusiasm
and join together with other students and youth as we
Walk Against War!

Halstead and Roosevelt is a high visibility location
in terms of vehicular
traffic, is the location of UIC’s ROTC training
program and the gateway
to University Village where what was once a historic,
flourishing and
ethnically diverse community known as Maxwell St. has
been gentrified to
make room for overpriced condominiums, overpriced and
culturally bland
dining, Starbucks coffee shops, Barbara’s Bookstores,

For more info about the March 20 demonstration and
march visit:

In case people will arrive late the march will proceed
north on Halstead
to Adams, east on Adams to Michigan, and north on
Michigan to Pearson.
Feel free to meet up with us along the way!

Have a lot of energy? Want to keep going?

We encourage everyone to continue with us, we’re
heading downtown!!
Check out the map and figure out a distance that is
good for you, we’re
going ALL the way! Don’t forget your good walking
