Dear Friends & Community Members, On Tuesday June 29, jury selection will
begin at the trial of the arrestees of the November 16th NYPD attack on
the Anarchist People of Color (APOC) party at the Critical Resistance
space in Brooklyn. On that night, dozens of officers indiscriminately
attacked and assaulted community members and party attendees.
Over one hundred people turned out at the first court date on December
18th in solidarity with the co-defendants. Our presence as a community was
known and clearly felt by the judge, the assistant district attorneys and
court offices. More importantly, arrestees and their families felt much
safer, supported and strong with such a large showing from their communities.
Since that date, they have had three other brief court appearances.
As of today, there have been no plea offers from the District
Attorney.

In the time spent in and around Brooklyn Criminal
Court in the past few months, we have seen the
constant disrespect of youth, families, people of
color, and local communities by the legal system. We
have also seen in and around the city the increased
criminalizing of political dissent. As the Republican
National Convention approaches, we can only expect
more.

Our hope is to bring together support for all
community folks in the kourt system alongside the
cases of civil disobedience and political repression.
We can do this by building a base of support for
defendants in the kourts, and launching creative
actions around the hypocrisy of the legal system that
do not jeopardize the cases of defendants.

To all folks who want to build on this front, we ask
that you stand in solidarity with the six
co-defendents by PACKING THE COURT on June 29th, 2004
@ 9:00 AM Brooklyn Criminal Court, Jury Room One,
120 Schermerhorn St. in Brooklyn.

We hope to use our presence in the court to connect in
supportive ways with other members of the community
who have been targeted by the legal system.
