The BBC has this weekend (31/1/04) broadcast a radio play called "The
Walsall Boys" by Nick McCarty.
It paints a pretty picture of the prime mover beind the provocation,
psycho christian secret policeman William "I do the Lord's work"
Melville... but seems unsure if he or the 'dangerous continental'
Anarchists are the more worrisome. But it is a good piece of theatre, and
obviously heavily researched (even "The Sheffield Anarchist" gets name-checked!)
You can listen to it at:

The Kate Sharpley Library has published two of David Nicoll's caustic
pamphlets on the case:
The Walsall Anarchists : Trapped by the police
1-873605-40-4 £1
and
Life in English Prisons (one hundred years ago)
1-873605-15-3 £1

Though of course "The Slow Burning Fuse" has a comprehensive chapter on
the "Walsall Anarchist case".
