David Rovics show a success! From: Tom Keefer <tom-A-tao.ca>
TORONTO- On Thursday, January 15th, over 200 people packed the
Parkdale Activity and Recreational Centre drop-in center to
attend a fund-raiser organized by the group Autonomy &
Solidarity. The event raised money for the Palestinian section
of the group, Defense of Children International, which works to
support child Palestinian political prisoners.
Wonderful and talented artists such as David Rovics, Greg
MacPherson, and a host of musical performers from the drop-in
center itself regaled the crowd to over three hours of fantastic
music. A delicious hot meal was served to everybody in
attendance, and the energy and good vibes of the centre made it a
welcome haven on one of the coldest days of the year.

Over $600 in donations were made, making the event a financial as
well as a musical and political success.

Autonomy & Solidarity would like to thank all of those who came
out to make the event such a success. We would especially like
to extend our thanks to all of the performers, PARC members and
PARC staff that made the event possible, with special thanks to
those who helped to cook, clean, and setup and take down the
event.

A web site with photographs from the evening is available at:

MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE DEFENSE FOR CHILDREN
INTERNATIONAL/PALESTINE SECTION (DCI/PS) AND AUTONOMY AND
SOLIDARITY.

One of DCI/PS main roles is awareness raising and legal defence
for Palestinian children arrested by the Israeli authorities. It
provides free legal support for any Palestinian child from the
West Bank and Gaza Strip, including legal representation in
Israeli military courts, visits to and monitoring of conditions
inside Israeli prisons, and support and connection with families
of child prisoners.

Currently over 350 Palestinian children are in Israeli prisons
and charged with political offences against the Israeli
occupation. In the year 2003 alone, approximately 500 children
were arrested. The vast majority are accused of stone-throwing
and most are sentenced to over 6-months in prison. All
Palestinian prisoners, including children, face forms of abuse
including torture during arrest and interrogation. Conditions
inside Israeli prisons have been repeatedly condemned
internationally and family visits are rarely permitted.

Autonomy & Solidarity is a network and political space for
socialists, anarchists, and anti-capitalists who believe that
revolutionary transformation will come from workers and oppressed
people self-organizing from below and not from the top down
organizing of any state, party, or bureaucracy. Our name comes
from our commitment to the autonomous struggles of workers and
the oppressed, and to our belief in building a solidarity that
addresses all forms of oppression and exploitation.
