Autonomy & Solidarity** Presents: a Parkdale Community Music Event
Thursday, January 15th, 2004. At PARC- 1499 Queen St. W. Toronto.
A Free Supper will be provided at 6pm, the show starts at 7pm.
David Rovics is a radical folk singer/songwriter who has been
compared to Phil Ochs and Pete Seeger. He well known for his
songs against imperialism and war and his principled support for
the anti-globalization and pro-Palestinian solidarity movements.
In recent years he has shared the stage with such luminaries as
Amy Goodman, Howard Zinn, Noam Chomsky, Ralph Nader, Barbara Lee,
Angela Davis, Danny Glover, Desmond Tutu, Michael Moore, Ward
Churchill, Jello Biafra, Pete Seeger, Billy Bragg, Bruce
Cockburn, the Indigo Girls, and has sung at a countless variety
of protests and gatherings.

See www.davidrovics.com for more info and to hear some of his
music for free.

Greg MacPherson is a champion of a songwriting tradition
stretching back to Woody Guthrie which includes voices like Jo
Strummer and Bruce Springsteen. He was born 30 years ago in the
Sydney City Hospital, half a kilometer from the most polluted
body of water in North America, and half an hour walk from his
family home at CFS Sydney. He grew up on radar bases all over
Canada; a base-brat in the shadow of the cold war, and a student
of regional diversity and disparity.

He was raised in front of a television, rode a unicycle to high
school, paid his rent at times by winning disco contests, dug
graves in a cemetery for 6 years, and got a degree in Labour
History in the mid-nineties. Multiple day jobs and a relentless
touring schedule has seen Greg a janitor playing his music for
punk rockers in Washington D.C. and a factory worker playing for
15,000 people on a folk festival stage in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

*MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE DEFENSE FOR CHILDREN
INTERNATIONAL/PALESTINE SECTION (DCI/PS)

One of DCI/PS main roles is awareness raising and legal defence
for Palestinian children arrested by the Israeli authorities. It
provides free legal support for any Palestinian child from the
West Bank and Gaza Strip, including legal representation in
Israeli military courts, visits to and monitoring of conditions
inside Israeli prisons, and support and connection with families
of child prisoners.

Currently over 350 Palestinian children are in Israeli prisons
and charged with political offences against the Israeli
occupation. In the year 2003 alone, approximately 500 children
were arrested. The vast majority are accused of stone-throwing
and most are sentenced to over 6-months in prison. All
Palestinian prisoners, including children, face forms of abuse
including torture during arrest and interrogation. Conditions
inside Israeli prisons have been repeatedly condemned
internationally and family visits are rarely permitted.

**Autonomy & Solidarity is an exploratory network and political
space for socialists, anarchists, and anti-capitalists who
support the politics of socialism from below - the perspective
that communist transformation will come from workers and
oppressed people self-organizing from below and not from the top
down organizing of any state, party, or bureaucracy. Our name
comes from our commitment to the autonomous struggles of workers
and the oppressed, and to our belief in building a solidarity
that addresses all forms of oppression and exploitation.**
