On 23rd February at 3pm in the central area of Izhevsk*, opposite the
Udmurt government buildings, there was an unsanctioned picket of
anarchists, antimilitarists and militants of the "Ataka" movement,
against the war in Chechnya. The demonstration lasted for about 30
minutes. 10 people unrolled banners reading "Putin's election: already
4 years of war?", "Chechen war - bloody piar", "the army is the school
of servitude", "authority will lie, the war goes on". The SMI [media]
was present at the action - one woman journalist from local newspaper.
Participants in the picket shouted pacifist slogans.

Beforehand, leaflets were handed around the city inviting people to the
action. Apparently, it was from these leaflets that the skinheads
learned about the action. The participants in the picket rolled up
their banners and left, but after approximately 50 metres they were
attacked by about 20-30 people from the local group of the fascist
organization, "Party of Freedom". Two people were beaten (suffering
head injuries) and were taken to hospital, where their wounds were
stitched. They also suffered concussion and are being kept under
observation until tomorrow. Several of the attackers are well known to
participants in the picket, since skinheads regularly attack
anarchists, anti-fascists and simply non-conformist young people on
actions and at concerts. An anti-fascist group appeared in Izhevsk
several months ago ready to repel attack, but they did not participate
in this anti-militarist action.
