The anarchist movement is at a crossroads. Three years ago, Seattle's
N30 set the stage for the emergence of a new anarchist movement in the
north of the Americas. Breaking with tired formulas of protest, the "Black
Bloc" movement helped breathe fresh air into the lungs of anti-capitalist
resistance by taking the streets and battling the forces of the State and
organized capital. Radically militant and infused with a determination to
win, anarchists participated in and played key roles in the development of
new directly democratic organizing models, fostering face to face dialogue
and spreading bottom up anti-authoritarian and anti-capitalist ideas and action.

Through spokes-councils and consultas, mass and confrontational direct
action was given voice and put into practice. This has made anarchy
undeniably among the most important phenomena in many of our lifetimes
and given us a glimpse of a different reality submerged, but embryonic,
under the present authoritarian one. However, successful growth in our
movement and assistance in the revolutionary transformation of society,
as real participants, not self appointed leaders, means building a base
and communicating to ourselves and the rest of the world.

Anarchism has revitalized the spirit of revolt and inspired new
generations to dream of what may be possible. For anarchists the
crossroads either means advancement or steps back. Our ideas and
actions either continue with their development, analysis, and
experimentation, or we suffer the consequence of lost chances and
irrelevancy. A new world is possible. Anarchism is a vast and varied set
of ideas that need to be debated and tested and in the wake of
intensified resistance to capitalist globalization, there are tough
questions we have to ask ourselves Where do we go from here and how do
we get there?

FRAC - GL (Federation of Revolutionary Anarchist Collectives - Great
Lakes) is an organization of anarchist revolutionaries in the Great
Lakes region. With members spreading from Minnesota to Pennsylvania and
established collectives in Chicago, Cleveland and Lansing- we have
organized together to discuss our various projects and initiate new ones
as a federation, with the aim of building a viable anarchist
alternative. FRAC grows out of the class struggle tendency of anarchism,
combined with a critical appreciation of the anti-imperialist and
anti-patriarchal struggles of the past century.

FRAC brings together new militants and older revolutionaries, working
people and activists. Collectives that make up FRAC are involved in
organizing against the police, fighting capitalist war and occupation,
and participating in both antiracist and antifascist struggles. FRAC
members organize in and around the workplace and community, and on the
campuses of high schools and colleges.
Collectives and individuals in FRAC also organize the promotion and
expansion of the culture of resistance necessary to the life of a
militant revolutionary movement. Composed of all these elements, FRAC as
an organization is still forming and believes it is necessary to keep
the dialogue open with others in order to learn from each other. We are
putting together a mini-speaking tour of the Midwest and Great Lakes
areas and would like to hear from any groups interested in hosting a
discussion with FRAC members.

We are also interested in compiling a FRAC FAQ (frequently asked
questions). Please consider sending us some questions, or topics you
would like to focus on.
