Unemployed workers blocked access to the "Red Crest" poultry plant and Jumbo
supermarket in El Jaguel to demand food for the popular food kitchens. Starting
at 10.40am today, the Movimiento de Trabajadores Desocupados de Ezeiza y
"Javier Barrionuevo" de E. Echeverria (MTD* Anibal Verón-Frente Popular Dario
Santillán) together with the Frente de Trabajadores Combativos (FTC Nacional),
blocked 3 access points to the "Red Crest" poultry plant (Av. Fair and Jorge
Newbery) amid a police operation under the control of the Lomas de Zamora
Department. Finally at 2.00pm, thanks to the enormous pressure of 300
unemployed workers, the management ceded and gave foodstuffs to the
organizations. Once the protest was over, the focus of conflict moved 2
kilometres, to the entrance of a big warehouse complex of the Jumbo hypermarket
(Jorge Newbery and Cerveti) where, from 3.00pm on, the protest continued with
demands for food and milk for the 5 food kitchens that the organizations run in
Ezeiza and E. Echeverria. Jorge Sanchez, an official at the deposit publicly
committed himself to starting a programme of assistance starting from next
week. In these closing hours of 2004, the organizations of unemployed workers
announce that they will remain ready for action and that as long as there is
poverty in Argentina we will continue with our demands and mobilizations.
