FLA - a brief history
The FLA has existed as a specific anarchist organization for over 69 years. Its
history goes back to October 1935, when it was founded as the Argentine
Anarcho-Communist Federation (FACA). The present name was adopted during a
Congress in early 1955. It is governed by the Declaration of Principles and the
Articles of Incorporation approved by its member groups in Congress. It has a
federal structure and operation and is coordinated by Local Councils and a
National Council. It is engaged in various activities. Among other things, the
following activities are currently undertaken at the FLA's premises, the Casa
de los Libertarios: regular meetings, bookshop, administration, library,
archive, welcoming visitors, correspondence. Every year conferences are held,
together with roundtables, book presentations, exhibitions of films and videos,
commemorations, social events and artistic and musical evenings. Until early
1971, 210 issues of its newspaper, "Acción Libertaria", had been published.
After a long pause, the FLA began publishing again in 1985 - this time, the
newspaper "El Libertario", the last issue of which (No.56) was in Spring 2004.
The "Reconstruir" publishing company, founded and run by the FLA, has published
a great many books and pamphlets in addition to the bimonthly magazine of the
same name, published until 1976. Although less intensely than before, it
continues in the work of distributing books and publishing works - most
recently with the titles "Mito, Religión, Iglesia", "La Revolución Libertaria
Española" and "Sacco y Vanzetti, dos nombres para la protesta", by Fernando
Quesada.
