The Call for Anarchists section is a call the Furious Five Collective issued by
February of 2004, reflecting an analysis of the current situation of the Anarchist
movement in the Bay Area and what we think it needs to happen. It express a bit of
our frustration as a collective made mainly of people of color and working-class folk,
with the Anarchist movement in the Bay. Please read it and give us your feed back.
> Fellow revolutionaries!
As capitalism reaches a time of crisis, a new dawn for anarchism
approaches. From Africa, to South America to Europe and the United
States, Anarchist-Communism is rising again as a serious and dedicated
movement to challenge the slavery of the people by the bourgeoisie.

It is then with certain despair that we look at the state of anarchism in the
Bay Area, disorganized and lacking a strategic methodology for furthering
the revolutionary agenda. We saw then the need of issuing this call-out,
urging our serious comrades to think about the issues put forth here and
respond accordingly.

History has taught the anarchist movement an important lesson, a lesson
that cost us dearly and one we should never forget. Our movement,
lacking of cohesiveness and a more serious organized model, was reduced
to crumbs in the fight against the fascist right and the state capitalist left.

The role of the federation is to provide the space and the organizational
structure to facilitate the creation of this cohesiveness and to create a
relevant analysis for our times, born out of the revolutionary work of its
members.

We feel that, in the disorganized state the anarchism is at the moment in
the Bay Area, it cannot be a influentional force nor can it develop or
disperse its message for the larger public, but it will continue to be a minor
current, isolated from the popular fight.

The Bay Area is seen around the country as a center for radical and
anarchist activity, yet there is a huge vacuum in an Anarchist-Communist
organization or platform. This is a result of anarchists imerging in the ways
of individualism and life-stylism, while serious revolutionaries wind up
scattered away and disconnected from each other.

In our perspective, the reflection of this in the Bay Area is that anarchism
is largely a white, male, activist activity. This aspect of the anarchist
movement affects deeply its dissemination and development as a
revolutionary alternative for many in the Bay Area, and makes our ideas
contrived and ineffective. Unless a new base is created that address and
confronts these issues, unless anarchist ideas are applied to reality in our
organizing and without the development of a structured strategic
organization that reflects this principles, anarchism in the Bay Area faces
serious problems ahead.

The Bay Area is one of the most diverse areas in the nation, and we feel
that there is something wrong with a practice of anarchism that does not
reflect that. We see the need of the construction of a new form of anarchist
forum, that is created in and reflects such a diversity. We feel that the
'recruitment' of people of color inside the present movement will not
change the reality of its structure, but only if the anarchist base is formed
anew, from the struggle of workers, women, people of color and the
oppressed.

As anarchists deeply involved in social struggle, we feel that only through
the insertion of the anarchist movement in the real battle of the people, the
battles that reflect their analysis and aspirations, can this new base be
formed and this new anarchist praxis be born.

Social movements are springing around us and the principles of anarchism
that sometimes can come naturally to the people are destroyed by
vanguardist opportunism and imposition of ideas. The anarchist federation
can be the other voice inside this movement, defending the idea of
people's leadership and control over their own movements.

We believe it is time for us to leave the shadows of the past and rise with
the sun of the revolution that each day shines stronger and warmer. It is
time for a revolutionary organization to rise in the Bay Area, an
organization of Anarchist-Communists imbued with a strategy and forms
of action that are a reflective of these libertarian principles and are pushing
forward our revolutionary agenda.

We would like to engage in a conversation with serious anarchists that
desire to pursue this goal. Please contact us.
