> A Message from the Firebrand Collective
We bring you our second issue of The Firebrand hoping
to provide ispiration, discussion, and tools for us rank and
file workers who are fighting for a free and equal society.
In this issue we have articles that touch on the subject of
anarchism, but only as a periphial subject. Yet, to the
Firebrand collective and many rank and file militants,
anarchism is a guiding force in our actions.
The Firebrand Collective identifies itself as anarchist-
communist. To us this means we strive for the abolition of
the state, capitalism, and all oppressive social structures.
We want to build a world based upon equality and free-
dom. A world where decisions come from the rank and
file, where we workers run this society; a directly demo-
cratic world. We want everyones needs to be met and for
everyone to engage in productive and meaningful work to
the best of their abilities.
We also see anarchist-communism as a guiding force in
how we approch workplace struggle. The improvements
to our standard of living is our goal, but we don't just
want everyone to be unionized (although that would be a
good step in the right direction), for as union workers
know, unions can be corrupt and often they make deals
with the bosses.
We want working class autonomy. We want to support
and create rank and file organizations and networks that
are working towards our collective liberation. Discussing,
developing, and implementing new tactics to beat the boss
is another goal we have as rank and file militants and
anarchist-communists.
Don't get us wrong, we are not purly committed to a ide-
ology. Our first alliegance is to our class, the working
class. We see the ideology of anarchist-communism as an
inherently a working class ideology and as a organization-
al framework within which we can build towards the abo-
lition of our oppressors.
The Firebrand Collective is part of a regional federation
of collectives and individuals in the northwest. As a fed-
eration we pool our collective experience and knowlege to
develop ideas and tactics that further our ability to fight
effectivly against the bosses and win. The Federation of
Northwest Anarchist-Communists also atempts coordi-
nate its efforts in fighting the class war throughout the
northwest.
We hope this brief description of our beliefs helps supple-
ment the articles and if you are interested in learning more
about our ideas and organization look out for a speaking
event happening soon. If you have any questions, com-
ments, or want to submit an article, or want to get
involved in the Firebrand collective email us at;
