13th of August will be first hearing on the case of Aleksei Cherepanov,
anarchist and journalist from Krasnodar. He is accused of possession
of drugs which were "found" in his room 16th of May in course of
an illegal search. During search, which was committed without presence
of hosts of the house and without civilian witnesses required by Russian law,
officers of Gosnarkokontrol confiscated 24.047 grams of Marihuana,
1.062 grams of Heroine, 6 bullets of calibre 5.45 millimetres, more than
100 titles of political literature, 600 roubles of money and 2 golden rings.
Fingerprints of Cherepanov were not found in bullets and drugs.

Literature was passed to FSB of Krasnodar area, which however
failed to set up a case on basis of political extremism and "a call
to overthrow constitutional order". Little surprising, when taking into
account that most of the confiscated literature is openly sold in
bookstores of Moscow.

Plenty of complaints by deputies, human rights organisations and individuals have been
filed in favour of Cherepanov and number of protest actions have been organised,
but he has still been kept more than 2.5 months in remand prison and 23rd of July his
case was passed to Sovetski district court of Krasnodar.

Cherepanov's lawyer E. Ivanov-Kuligin is certain that "Criminal case and search
were committed in order to accuse Cherepanov about political extremism,
propaganda and actions, directed to overthrow constitutional order. There is
hardly any other explanation for interest of Gosnarkokontrol to literature confiscated
from Cherepanov".
